It's official: Iowa's own Maddie Poppe is one step closer to becoming the next American Idol! Last night was the very first live results show, and our gal was the VERY first contestant to be inducted into the top 10. That sense of relief really made her performance of "Walk Like an Egyptian" even better!

Maddie seems very relaxed on stage (even though she's mentioned how nervous she gets), she has a great and unique sense of style, and she knows exactly what songs lend to her voice. I definitely agree that she is the "dark horse" of the season, even though here in Iowa she's our front runner!

Aside from Maddie, there are some other fantastic singers in the top 10. I think Jurnee is absolutely phenomenal and did NOT deserve to be in the "danger zone," and Ada may have the biggest voice I've ever heard. Caleb, our token country boy, killed Chris Young's "Getting You Home" last night, and the quirky Catie Turner impresses me more and more each week. I was very sad to see Mara go home, but I think she will do just fine for herself. After all, she is only 16-years-old.

From here on out, the competition is going to be very fierce. All of the remaining singers are going to have to really up their game if they want to win, because all of the remaining singers have proved themselves to be REALLY good. It's a blessing and a curse.

Here are a few of my favorite performances from the week:
