It could be a record-breaking Memorial Day Weekend! Low gas prices are among the factors that could lead to a record number of drivers hitting the roads this weekend. The Iowa State Patrol wants you to know that they'll be there too. Here are some things to keep in mind while driving this weekend.

Officers say the most important things you can do when you get behind the wheel is put down your phone, and buckle up! Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents in the U.S. and with the increased traffic flow this weekend, you need to have your eyes on the road and NOT your phone.

Also, give yourself some extra time to get to your destination, and give yourself a little extra room between you and other vehicles on the roads. And as always, if you're heading out to party, please choose a designated driver.

Over 34,000 people die on America's roadways every year. Stay safe and arrive alive this holiday weekend!
