Monticello Gas Main Leak Forces Evacuation

A gas main has been damaged in Monticello at South Main and South Streets.  Businesses and residences have been evacuated in the following areas:  400 to 700 block of South Main Street, 400 to 700 block South Maple, 500 to 600 block of South Haven Drive, 200 block of East South Street.

A total of 25 to 30 businesses and residences are effected.  Those displaced by the gas leak and in need of a shelter location are being directed to the Monticello Community Building.

The leak is expected to be effecting the area residents for the next 3 to 5 hours.  The Monticello Police Department will issue a release to residents and business owners when officials determine it is safe to return.

Those that have been displaced are asked not to return for personal belongings such as medications are directed to contact the Monticello City Hall for assistance at 319-465-3577.
