Mysterious Pianos Appearing Downtown Explained

In 2013 three pianos appeared downtown, to many without notice. In fact, these three started off a pilot program "Keys on Third" to make Cedar Rapids more interactive and fun. Now that same program is expanding to eight, scattered throughout Cedar Rapids and third street and even into the rapidly developing New Bo District. The pianos are hand painted by local artists.

Local people of all ages have been seen playing the pianos to help brighten days. “Keys on Third” is a program of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, and is possible thanks to West Music and Theatre Cedar Rapids, with support from Third Street businesses and local artists.
