Netflix just dropped a brand new trailer for their forthcoming adaptation of the popular book series Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events and (so far!) it appears likely the series will reflect the darkly entertaining tone of its source material.

The new clip gives viewers an extended look at Neil Patrick Harris as the sinister Count Olaf, who wreaks havoc on the lives of the Baudelaire orphans with increasingly bizarre fashion, in an attempt to steal their inheritance. The trailer is also heavy with appearances from supporting cast members Catherine O'Hara, Alfre Woodard and Joan Cusack.

Fans of the Daniel Handler aka Lemony Snicket novels have mercifully been granted a re-do of the series' film adaptation by the creatives over at Netflix. The streaming service announced they'd bought the rights to flesh out a forthcoming TV show back in 2014, according to Deadline. The Netflix series will air nearly 13 years after the first on screen adaptation -- a lackluster 2004 film version, starring Jim Carrey, Jude Law and Meryl Streep -- was released to lukewarm reception.

“On the search for fantastic material that appeals to both parents and kids, the first stop for generations of readers is A Series of Unfortunate Events,” Vice President of Original Content at Netflix Cindy Holland told Deadline. “The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny and relatable. We can’t wait to bring it to life for Netflix members.”

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will (fittingly) premiere on Netflix on January 13, 2017. Check out the new trailer above, in the meantime.
