New Steakhouse Opens In Cedar Rapids

There's a new place to get a great steak in Cedar Rapids!

It's called Southside Steakhouse, located at 1810 6th Street Southwest. The building formerly was home to another great restaurant, Steaks by Thomas. My old friend Thomas was the owner and operator of that business before he passed away about a year ago.

Jason Beauregard is the new owner of the restaurant. He spent some time before opening to clean the place up and give it a new look. It's a very simple layout with a really cool vibe. I wanted to start with a cocktail and I had many to choose from!

There were plenty of food choices on the menu, but I was in the mood for steak. I always believe when you're in a steakhouse - you should order steak. I just wasn't sure how hungry I was.

I'd like to tell you I ordered the 8-ounce steak...but I didn't. For the sake of the blog, I got the big 16-ounce T-Bone. Why not, you only live once! I was happy I did, but that's WAY more food than I needed!

I'm proud to say I finished the entire meal. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Even though they were busy, the service was pretty good and our drink glasses were never empty.

Southside is a simple place with good food. It's not fancy and you can wear whatever you want. It's a neighborhood restaurant with really good food. I'm not a fan of the big chain places....this is more my speed.

"We're happy to be part of the neighborhood," Beauregard told me. "It's been a lot of work, but things are going well for us. We look forward to a long future here in Cedar Rapids."
