Remember back in December when that wicked storm blew in bringing tornado warnings and strong winds? I certainly do, as from out studios in one of the taller buildings in downtown Cedar Rapids, we've seen some scary things when these storms come.

During storms like that, our job is to stay in studio, on-air to keep you safe. I remember a few years back when a piece of siding ripped off one of the building across from us, sending it flying towards our windows, right at us looking out towards the storm. It was quite frightening. So that December storm, all I could think about was the construction of the new CRST building and that tall crane that has become a fixture of the Cedar Rapids skyline this past year. I remember checking every so often to see if it was still standing. Luckily, everything was okay. This was not the case in NYC yesterday, as a large construction crane, much larger than ours, collapsed, killing one.

Their winds were only about 20mph, and the crane was 15 floors up. I believe the CRST crane is about 13 floors up. The victim was a man sitting is his car. 3 others were injured, 2 seriously. While I'm sure our crane was perfectly safe, you just never know, especially with strong winds.

Pictures began immediately showing up all over social media. Our thoughts with those impacted by this scary situation.
