When you've done something for so long with so much success, it can be hard to step away. You may have heard back in October that Phil Collins has "officially announced" the end of his brief retirement. This announcement quickly sparked, for some reason, a "petition" online, which has since been taken down, to keep him retired. There was even a counter-petition to offer him further encouragement to stand by his decision to return.

After the initial thoughts of "someone has a lot of time on their hands" and "why would anyone not want Phil Collins to come back?" two other schools of thought emerged: either people wanted to keep him from outshining today's stars or from being buried in the shuffle with them. Both sides pretty much have a point.

Either way, I'm not sure anyone is exactly pining for a new Phil Collins album and I doubt it will stack up chart-wise against the likes of Adele or Taylor Swift, but he could still be a big draw on tour for nostalgic fans.

If nothing else, we always have his timeless classics to fall back on.

Do you welcome Phil Collins' active return to music and will you buy his new stuff, or do you think he should stay retired and live off the nostalgia? Let me know in the comments!
