Pixar made a huge announcement months ago about their upcoming list of movies, and followed it up last week with specific release dates. They thought the fans would be ecstatic.  That's not exactly the reaction they got.

We’re proud to present the official release dates for our upcoming slate of films through 2019.

I would have thought the fans would be super excited to see a bunch of their favorite Pixar characters returning to the big screen. Who doesn't love Mater, the Incredibles, Dory, Buzz and Woody, etc?  I've been hoping for a Nemo sequel for a while, and with Dory as the lead, you know it's going to hysterical, right.  I admit I was skeptical about Toy Story 3, but it blew me away, and I trust the Pixar team can keep that going.  Cars 3 is a give or take for me.  As for the Incredibles, why not? Besides, Superheroes are HUGE right now, so there has to be some great ideas there.  Apparently, though, I'm in the minority, as fans are a little bit more, well... cold, if not 'Frozen' on the idea, wishing the movie house would just "Let It Go" in terms of sequels.

Reading through some of the over 4,500 comments on the post, there's a bunch of mixed opinions, though a majority seems a bit frustrated.

  • Sad Pixar has become a sequel factory. They used to be about innovation.
  • So...six upcoming films and only TWO are "new" ideas?
  • What happened to Pixar coming up with ORIGINAL ideas?... I am not paying theater prices for a SEQUEL.
  • Pixar, you're better than a bunch of sequels. I am disappointed in you.
  • I don't understand all the sequels. Much prefer the original thinking that used to define Pixar. Is this the Disney management effect? Having a Cars 3 is ridiculous - Cars 2 was by far the worst Pixar movie ever - and why would you mess with the perfect ending of TS3?!?
  • I think Toy Story 3 was a PERFECT ending. I mean, Andy went to college, the toys went to Bonnie. Boom done. Great. I don't care what Bonnie does with the toys.

Overall, no one seemed disappointed with the new movies, even Incredibles 2 had a majority a bit excited. There's plenty of mixed reviews for Finding Nemo, with most thanks to Ellen as the lead for hope on that one.  But the real dissension goes to Cars 3 (who many seemed to care nothing about), and a Toy Story 4, as the ending of the 3rd was so perfect.  I get that opinion, but I've also enjoyed the Toy Story shorts since then, and think there could be hope.  Maybe all we need is more shorts though, and not another full length.

I did pick up on a demand for a Monster Inc sequel (vs prequel), as well as some stirring for a Brave prequel.  Agreed, both of those could be fun to watch.

No matter, I'm a big Disney fan, and am ready for all the above. Sure some may not be as good, but it's Disney, so it's fun and family friendly, and that's all I need (Maybe I've just been drinking too much of the Disney Kool-aid.)

What's your take on the Pixar annoucement?
