The cold weather has arrived early in Eastern Iowa which begs the question,"How cold will it get?" No one can really answer that question, but we can tell you when it will likely be the coldest.

After looking at all the historical data, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration pretty much shows that January, not surprisingly, is not the month for warmth. Most of the country can expect it's coldest day of the year during that month.

In Eastern Iowa, the colors are a bit hard to deduce. I dug a little deeper and found that, according to National Weather Service data, January 8th through 13th are historically our coldest days of the year, with an average high temperature of 27.8 degrees. However, the low temperatures on the mornings of January 11th and 12th average just 10.7. That means they are historically our coldest two days.

In 2015, January 11th is a Sunday so I'm taking a vacation day for the 12th right now.  Why wait? Something tells me the way this winter's starting out, I'll be glad to stay in my warm, cozy house.
