The 3rd of July fireworks spectacular is a popular, all-day family event every year on the city's Northwest side in the Ellis Park and Ellis Harbor areas. Unfortunately, this year police are investigating several incidents of unruly behavior in the area.

Video has circulated of a group of reportedly 25-40 individuals fighting, and for lack of a better term, looting, at the Casey's General Store located on Ellis Blvd. and O Ave. NW at around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

The Casey's store closed early for the night as the rowdiness grew unmanageable.  One adult was charged with public intoxication, while several teenagers were charged with disorderly conduct.

The July 3rd Ellis fireworks have been an annual tradition for many years, and are organized by a hard-working group of volunteers for the entire community to enjoy. Opinions on both sides of this latest incident have been strong, but it's unfortunate to see this type of behavior by an immature few, interfering with and spoiling the fun for others.

Call the Cedar Rapids Police Department with any information about the Casey's incidents at (319)286-5491.
