Three downtown Cedar Rapids buildings are soon coming down, despite the objections of historic preservation groups. But not before those opponents gather in a demonstration against the demolition.

The Gazette reports a demonstration is planned from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday outside the Bever Building, located at 417 First Ave. SE. The group Save CR Heritage are organizing the event to protest the demolitions of the Bever Building, Albert Auto and Sub City, which are being replaced by a new $11 million headquarters for Skogman Realty.

The group says these are just the latest three buildings among a string of historic properties they've tried to preserve before being demolished, including a former Sinclair gas station, and a historic mansion that turned into parking for Physicians' Clinic of Iowa. The group says they are also against the public tax incentives that generally subsidize these demolitions.

The public is welcome to participate and bring signs to show their support.
