In 1985, the average cost of  a new home topped $100,000. Average household income was $23,618. Gas was $1.20 a gallon and a dozen eggs were a whopping 80 cents.

A multitude of popular musical artists banded together for international charity as the Live Aid concerts were held in Philadelphia and London.

The Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Bears had successful years in  football that saw them start the next calendar year in postseason play.

Barbie doll sales surpassed the human population, and the salad bar was introduced, which you might have washed down with Coca-Cola's controversial "New Coke".
