Ricky Gervais isn’t leaving Netflix anytime soon. Following the Office star and comedian’s standup special, Gervais has announced he’ll follow the streaming Derek with a new After Life comedy; executive producing, directing and starring as a widower looking to punish the world.

Gervais actually announced the series over Twitter yesterday, though The Hollywood Reporter followed up to confirm a six-episode Netflix order. After Life will also re-partner Gervais with frequent collaborator Charlie Hanson (Derek, Life’s Too Short, Extras). Here’s the synopsis:

The series revolves around Tony (Gervais), who had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes. After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Superpower — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.

In addition to Gervais’ two standup specials, the comedian also used Netflix to help launch his Office spinoff film, David Brent: Life on the Road. Gervais also made headlines in recent months with a string of transphobic remarks from his comedy specials, as well as subsequent attempts to justify them.

Gervais has only just started pre-production, so After Life may not premiere until much later this year, or 2019.
