He's the only coach Cedar Rapids' hockey team has ever had, and he's about to reach two impressive milestones, simultaneously.

When USHL hockey came to the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena 19 years ago, did anyone really expect it to be such a wildly successful endeavor? It has, and one coach along with his hundreds of players over the years, has been solely responsible for it. For this community, it rivals the excitement of Olympic hockey, which is getting underway this month.

Mark Carlson is approaching his 600th win in Cedar Rapids, trailing only Waterloo's PK Handley as the most successful coaches in USHL history. A hefty and well-deserved accolade for a man who has brought so much dedication to entertainment and community service in the City of Five Seasons. What's more, he will also be the only USHL coach to reach that number of wins with only one team.

His next shot at this grand achievement comes this weekend. For tickets to either Friday or Saturday night's game against Muskegon or Dubuque, visit the RoughRiders website.

Go RoughRiders and congratulations to Coach Carlson!
