A deal is the works between the city of Cedar Rapids and the Roughriders hockey club that would keep the team in Cedar Rapids. The team's owner says that he is working with the city to keep the team at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. The team's lease at 'The Stable' ends at the end of the year.

The Roughriders are in their 19th season in Cedar Rapids after moving to town from Mason City. The arena opened in 2000. It received nearly $500,000 in upgrades from new ownership in 2009.

The Roughriders are averaging just over 2100 fans per game this season. That's good for 9th out of 17 teams in the USHL. Fans would love to see the teams stay given the news involving local teams this week. The Cedar Rapids Titans indoor football team is for sale and the Rampage indoor soccer teams could also be on the move.
