Hazzard County Saloon in downtown Cedar Rapids is getting some new competition, and it won't be far away.

Hazzard, the only country bar in the downtown area for years, will greet a new spot called Country Underground, formerly the Liquid Lounge. The new bar will open just down the block at 305 2nd Ave. SE. Hazzard is located at 329 2nd Ave. SE.

Tiffany Elwick, a manager at the Rock Bar (also run by the same ownership), confirmed to me that Country Underground will open as a country bar. She tells me it will feature games, darts, and a dance floor.

The timing of Country Underground's opening should be very good with three major country shows coming to the U.S. Cellular Center in the next few months. Chris Young, Kane Brown, and LANCO come to the venue on Saturday, February 24. Friday, March 23 will feature Little Big Town, Kacey Musgraves, and the breakout new band, Midland. Friday, May 10 brings Brantley Gilbert back downtown.

Country Underground is scheduled to open Saturday, February 3.
