Unfortunately, 2017 is picking up where 2016 left off. Multiple sources, including USA Today, are reporting the passing Sunday, February 12, of R & B and jazz legend, Grammy winner Al Jarreau.

It was reported last week that he would cancel all 2017 tour dates and subsequently retire from touring and music altogether due to exhaustion and other related medical issues. Unfortunately, those issues have now taken his life at the age of 76.

I have always been a huge Al Jarreau fan. From soft ballads like "After All" to upbeat, catchy melodies like "We're in this Love Together", his smooth, unmistakable voice was one to admire. But perhaps he is best known to casual fans for the theme song to the '80s television series "Moonlighting", starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.

According to a story posted by CBS2, Jarreau was a University of Iowa alum. The Gazette lists his last Eastern Iowa performance as 2014's University of Iowa Soul Fest at Hancher Auditorium.

Our best wishes go out to the family, friends and fellow fans of Al Jarreau. Some walk by night, indeed.
