For some reason, we kind of obsess about what the "official" song of the summer is.  It's a conversation that seems to start in late April, and is mentioned and speculated at almost weekly.  And now that Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end to summer, is here, we now know what song that is.Or do we?  It was pretty clear cut in years past.  2011 had "Party Rock Anthem", "Call Me Maybe" in 2012, "Blurred Lines" in 2013, and "Fancy" last year.  But this year doesn't have a clear cut winner.  A couple different "Summer 2015 Top 5" lists have come out, with still more coming soon were sure, and each has a different #1.  So many even disagree on at least 3 of the 5 songs.  So lets start with who was up for contention this year.

Early speculation had "Pretty Girls" from Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea leading the pack, possibly even Lunchmoney Lewis "Bills", but where are those songs now?  In fact, Billboard's early survey from May has these and a bunch more that just didn't take off, and is missing so many.  It's quite the flashback.

The failed VMAs had 5 Seconds of Summer's latest "She's Kinda Hot" as the top song, but didn't that only JUST come out? Hard to call it the Summer Song, but being MTV, they do what they want, well, because. Other contenders included the more notable contenders like Fifth Harmony's “Worth It,” Skrillex, Diplo, and Justin Bieber’s “Where Are Ü Now,” Demi Lovato’s “Cool For The Summer,” Selena Gomez and A$AP Rocky’s “Good For You,” Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood,” David Guetta and Nicki Minaj’s “Hey Mama,” The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face,” Fetty Wap’s “My Way,” OMI’s “Cheerleader,” Silento’s “Watch Me,” and Major Lazer’s “Lean On.”

Pretty much all of those round out a strong list of contenders.  But again, the charts just couldn't agree (see below).  So we put it this way: if you take all of these and tally it up, it appears THIS would be the most official list you can put together:

  1. Omi - Cheerleader
  2. Major Laser - Lean On
  3. Fetty Wap - Trap Queen
  4. The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face
  5. Wiz Khalifa - See You Again
