Despite not having kids of my own, and having graduated high school almost 20 years ago, I still find it a bit disheartening to see "back to school" advertising in July. School supplies were prominently on display when I took a recent trip to a local grocery store.

School is scheduled to start for the Cedar Rapids School District on August 26, just over a month away. After a late end in mid-June when snow days were being made up, that's only 5-6 weeks of a school-free summer. When did this trend start?

Like I said, it's been a while since I've been in school and to be honest, I recall times when I actually got excited to go pick up school supplies. But it seems like it was a little closer to the start of class than this. What do you think of the "back-to-school" onslaught in the middle of summer?  Make sure to leave your comments below!
