Poor Barb.

As everyone who's watched Stranger Things already knows — and if you didn't finish the series yet, turn back now! — all Barb wanted to do was make sure her friend Nancy didn't get her heart broken by high school hunk and maybe-jerk Steve. Unfortunately, her devotion to her less awesomely dressed girlfriend got her killed, savagely dragged off to the Upside Down for some horrific unknown fate off-screen.

Since the hit show hit Netflix in July, viewers have been wondering about the fate of the fan favorite character and the possibility that maybe, just maybe, she may return for a second season — or at least get the justice she so rightfully deserves. (After all, the town nearly lost their s--- when 12-year-old Will Byers went missing, but the only person who seemed to care about Barb's disappearance was Nancy.)

Thankfully, Matt and Ross Duffer, the masterminds behind Stranger Things, cleared up a few theories about everyone's favorite and totally chill redhead in an interview with IGN.

Speaking about the possibility of Shannon Purser, the actress behind Barb, returning for a second season, Matt said that while it probably wouldn't make sense to resurrect the character, he would definitely provide emotional closure for her death in a potential future season.

"I can't see it happening. But Barb will not be forgotten," he revealed. "We'll make sure there's some justice for Barb."

The showrunner also explained that though viewers may not have seen the logical reactions to Barb's disappearance that they were looking for onscreen (aside from Nancy's, that is), it doesn't mean that there were none taking place in-universe.

"People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn't seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening," Matt said. "We're just not spending any screen time on it. It's not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!' Season one actually takes place over the course of six or seven days – it's a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical season two is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened."

While a second season of Stranger Things has yet to be officially announced, at least we know that there will be justice for Barb. And for that, we're grateful.
