An event like this happens once in a blue moon.

The so-called "strawberry moon" appeared in the sky on Monday (June 20) night -- the first time that's happened on the summer solstice since 1967. The moon got its fruity title because "the Algonquin tribes knew that it signified that fruits, such as strawberries, were ripe for the picking."

Monday's strawberry moon was a true rarity, too. It's the first time a full moon fell on the summer solstice since 1967 and it won't happen again until 2062. And don't be fooled -- the moon was not red like a strawberry. Sorry for the disappointment.

Take a look some photos of the moon below.
