Happy first day of summer! It's a season filled with swimming, fishing, vacations, and more fun than you can shake a stick at! So why aren't I more excited? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy doing things like taking my kids to the pool. But to me, summer is just one big pile of sweat.

I sweat...a lot. More than the average person. And since I'm bald, it just rolls right off my head and down into places it has no right being. I'll leave it at that. You heard the old saying, "It's not the heat, it's the humidity". In Iowa, THAT is summer. We've been pretty lucky and had a nice, mild spring. Sure, we've had some stretches of warm days, but I've been able to turn the air back off when it cooled down. Well, my air is back on and it probably won't be off again until the fall. So add higher electric bills to the list of things I don't like about summer.

Can we talk about the bugs for a minute too? The gnats are already out and the mosquitos are ramping up their efforts as we speak. Nothing says summer like a swarm of bugs surrounding your sweat filled head during every outdoor activity.

Plus I can't get rid of the kids! Around July, the constant of having them home every day begins to take its toll. There is the phrase "there's nothing to do" that is uttered every half hour. You begin asking yourself if summer school was the answer. You also circle the first day of school on the calendar and stare at it. Hourly.

As far as seasons go, you can have Summer. Give me Fall or Spring any day. Heck, a mild winter is better than Summer. If you want to argue with me I'm easy to find. I'm the bald, angry sweaty man in the corner staring at the month of August.
