UPDATE: TMZ reports that Caleb died after being crushed between two rail cars when the train derailed. He was reportedly checking on something in the space between the cars. As of now, no information is known on why the train derailed.

Caleb Bankston, a contestant on 'Survivor: Blood vs. Water,' passed away at age 26 following a train accident, PEOPLE reports.

According to TMZ, Caleb was a locomotive engineer/conductor for Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham and was killed when a train derailed on Tuesday (June 24.)

Caleb and his fiance, Colton Cumbie, participated in 2013's 'Survivor: Blood vs. Water.' Caleb finished the game in ninth place.

PEOPLE reached out to contestants who competed on the reality show.

"Caleb was an amazing man and friend," Aras Baskauskas tells the publication. "One of the sweetest and most sincere humans I've ever come across. I am gutted by his loss. My thoughts and prayers are with his family."

Fellow 'Survivor' alum Sabrina Thompson knew Cumbie from 'Survivor: One World.'

"While playing 'Survivor' with Colton, he would talk about his boyfriend, Caleb, around the clock 24/7," Sabrina tells PEOPLE. "Within seconds of meeting Caleb at the finale and 'Survivor' events, it's no wonder why he raved about him. You were instantly drawn to his big smile, warm spirit and Southern charm. May God rest his soul … gone too soon."
