Police in Marion are warning residents to be vigilant in the wake of a suspicious incident last Thursday evening.

Police officials say that a child was riding his bike on the sidewalk near 5th street and 29th avenue at around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday. A white van turned down 5th street and slowed down. Officers say that the child detected that something wasn’t right, jumped off his bike and ran to a nearby house. The child believed that the side door of the van was opening.

Police say that no one exited the van or spoke to the child. The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is urged to contact the Marion Police Department.
