Joey Gase goes from behind the wheel to team owner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Next month's Daytona 500 will be just the beginning.

He's in Newton at Iowa Speedway for the NASCAR Xfinity Race.

Iowa natives Landon Cassill and Joey Gase were both involved in wrecks, but both managed to finish The Daytona 500.

A pair of Cedar Rapids natives who got their start in racing right here in eastern Iowa, will be racing under the lights at Daytona tonight. Landon Cassill and Joey Gase are both running in the first Can-Am Dual 150 tonight.

Local NASCAR driver, Joey Gase, has had numerous ups and downs on his road to success in professional racing.  A fire inside his racing trailer this past weekend has dealt it's latest blow, destroying so much of their equipment and supplies. While devastating, it's certainly not the end of the road for this strong willed driver.

When it comes to racing, I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the sport.  It's just not my cup of tea.  I'm guessing many of you reading this may feel the same.  However, after this past weekend, I have a feeling that number will be falling as NASCAR driver Joey Gase, a Cedar Rapids resident, jumped into the hearts of the nation after a remarkable finish this weekend.
