Memorial Day is a time of conflicting emotions. On one hand, it's kind of an unofficial kickoff to summer when my family tries to relax and enjoy life. More importantly, it's a reminder of my dad who came home after servicing during World War 2 while many other fighting men and women didn't.
Around 9,000 American flags will grace the cemetery as an awe-inspiring tradition continues. You can even help with the huge undertaking of putting out flags.
It's time to enjoy the unofficial first weekend of summer, but the Iowa Department of Natural Resources reminds us it's going to be a lot different this time.
