It's one of the biggest "kick-off summer" events in the area for kids and families, and it happens Saturday: Tanager Place Summer Fest. With so many FREE activities for kids of all ages, you won't want to miss this.

As a parent, you're always looking for things to do with the kids, that isn't going to cost a ton of money. So when I first moved here, and heard about Summer Fest, I knew we had to check it out. Honestly, I was blown away, and beside myself with how much we did, and how much fun we had, without it costing us really anything.  I'll give you a few examples.

One of the big things about Tanager Place Summer Fest is the Bike Helmet giveaway.  We started our day in a fairly short line to enter the tennis courts, where there was table after table of bike helmets set-up, in different sizes.  My kids were very happy, and even excited, to be getting their helmets.  It may have even been the excitement of the day that turned these helmets into almost a "cherished" possession.  In fact, we hardly have to remind the kids to wear their helmets when they ride their bikes.  Free helmets that the kids are excited to wear:  That's a total win for any parent.

Another huge draw is the "Make Your Own Cereal" Tent.  This is quite popular, and the line was longer.  However, as we waited, it seemed like we were given a bunch of free samples of fruit snack and such, plus the wait was worth it, as the kids had a blast using their creativity to put what they wanted in their cereal, including the toy, and then deciding the name and coloring the box.  Plus you figure a box of cereal cost anywhere from $2-$4 at the store?  Yeah, we pretty much got paid to attend.

But the fun doesn't end there, as there's a HUGE craft tent the kids thoroughly enjoyed (but don't wear your nice clothes, as it can get messy).  By the time we finished that, we almost didn't have enough time for the mini golf course and science tent.  Unfortunately, we missed many of the performances and the car show, simply because there was so much to do, which is always a good thing, ESPECIALLY when it's all free.  We did catch some photos with the various mascots walking around though.  I think we even spent a couple bucks to enjoy some of the inflatables.  The balloon glow became a nice endcap to the day too.

The best part of all of this, is it's a Community Service Organization that puts it all together, which is Tanager Place, a group who does so much to help with mental and behavioral help for children in our community. So not only are your getting a free day of family memories, you're also supporting a great organization.  There's nothing wrong with that.

Last year, unfortunately, the event was called off shortly after it started due to rain, which was devastating for everyone involved.  We heard from so many listeners who had a car full of completely bummed children.  Good news is that it looks like that will not repeat this year.  So come join us for the fun.  You'll find us up by the car show providing great music, and giving away Barenaked Ladies tickets, Kernels tickets, and those Wisconsin Dells season opener cards which will save you a ton more money on family memories.  We hope to see you Saturday.
