The evolution of Taylor Swift continues with her new song "... Ready for It?," which shows off a darkly sexy side to the superstar we've not quite seen before.

Swift dropped the new song by surprise on Sunday morning (Sept. 3), making it the second track fans have heard from her upcoming Reputation album. Musically the song is a mix of pop and hip-hop beats, featuring Swift spitting out the verses in a rap cadence as she once again throws away the sweet, innocent image she has crafted over the years in favor of much more mature, sexier themes.

Swift has often cast herself as a victim of romance in past songs, but she reverses the roles in "... Ready for It?" by portraying herself as being in control, though there's an undercurrent of romance in the song as well.

"Me, I was a robber first time that he saw me / Stealing hearts and running off and never saying sorry / But if I'm a thief then he can join the heist / And we'll move to an island," she sings.

Taylor Swift's Evolution: From Virtuous to Vengeful

The "... Ready for It?" lyrics take a surprising turn when Swift sings, "And he can be my jailer, Burton to this Taylor / Every lover known in comparison is a failure / I forget their names now, I'm so very tame now / Never be the same now."

She makes it clear that she intends to give as good as she gets in the chorus of "... Ready for It?"

"I see how this is gonna go / Touch me and you'll never be alone / Island breeze and lights down low / No one has to know / In the middle of the night in my dreams / You should see the things we do, baby / In the middle of the night in my dreams / I know I'm gonna be with you, so I take my time ... are you ready for it?" Swift teases in the chorus.

Swift announced a new direction when she released "Look What You Made Me Do" as the first single from Reputation, and she symbolically killed off the old Taylor Swift in the video for the song, which premiered during the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 27.

Swift is set to release Reputation on Nov. 10, and she'll promote the album with a massive tour.
