As a songwriter, Taylor Swift has never been one to shy away from the details in an attempt to write honestly and openly about her experiences. It's a successful strategy that has allowed fans to insert themselves into her songs -- from those butterfly beginnings of a relationship to the lament of lost love. We love her because she writes in a manner that's both relatable and realistic. But the press hasn't been nearly as kind to Taylor, sometimes stating her only material stems from her famous ex-boyfriends -- as though romance is an absurd and rare thing to write songs about.

Never one to take unfair criticism lying down, Taylor has since fired back. In an interview (posted above) with Australian radio show 'Jules, Merrick & Sophie,' Taylor opened up about the career-long criticism she's received regarding her decisions to write about her relationships -- which, unless she decides to live in a nunnery for the rest of her days, will probably always be a natural part of her life. She said: "The most important thing for me is maintaining artistic integrity, which means as a songwriter I still continue to write about my life."

Naming fellow male artists like Ed Sheeran and Bruno Mars, Taylor goes on to call out the sexism that seems to be at the root of such criticism, saying: "Frankly, I think that's a very sexist angle to take. No one says that about Ed Sheeran. No one says that about Bruno Mars. They're all writing songs about their exes, their current girlfriends, their love life and no one raises a red flag there."

We couldn't agree with you more, Taylor.

Continuing her promotional tour in Australia, Taylor also performed her single 'Shake It Off' on 'The X Factor Australia,' totally owning the stage. When asked to give the 'X Factor' contestants some advice, Taylor tells them: "Never assuming you are entitled to anything is very important with this. And also, treating people well." And if there's anyone in the current music world to take career advice from, it's definitely Taylor.
