The Incredibles 2 is coming, finally, after more than thirteen long, arduous years of waiting, and while we don’t know much about the actual plot, we do know that it’ll start right where the first movie left off. If you recall, after the Parr family defeats angsty supervillain Syndrome and his marauding Omnidroid, they have a few months of normalcy before another baddie enters the fray. The Underminer, voiced by Jon Ratzenberger, explodes out of the ground at the controls of a massive drilling machine, and the final shot of the movie is the Parrs tensing up for a fight.

At the D23 Expo, Pixar’s chief creative officer John Lasseter told IGN that the sequel picks up just “a minute” after the credits roll in the first one.

It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on. It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that's where start this movie.

That’s a fantastic way to open the sequel, with the Parrs working together as a family to take down a bad guy. After all, the importance of family is what the first movie is essentially about. There is actually a video game that was released after the first movie came out called The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer, that acted as a kind of sequel and featured just Mr. Incredible and Frozone taking on the big bad, but I don’t think anyone’s going to mind if the movie switches that fight up a bit.

It also doesn’t sound like the Underminer is going to be the big bad of the whole movie either, which is also fine. A big fight like that would actually make for a great opening credits montage, now that I think about it. Hey, Pixar, you guys can give me a call anytime.

The Incredibles 2 will hit theaters June 15, 2018.
