The annual St. Joseph's Day Parade through NewBo and Czech Village is going to take a year off, and Mother Nature is to blame.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Friday evening through Saturday afternoon. The counties shaded in blue are included in the watch and with strong winds and heavy snow possible, a 1 p.m. parade on Saturday didn't seem like a very good idea.

I think it's a good move by the St. Joseph's Parade committee to make this decision now. No reason to wait on this one.

Even with the parade canceled there will be plenty of other things going on later in the day Saturday and we're only a couple months away from another huge event in this part of our city... the annual Houby Days.

Here's hoping Mother Nature misses her eastern Iowa mark this weekend. After all, spring is officially here and I'm ready for the weather to start acting like it. How 'bout you?
