Thursday, October 27 update: The Linn County Sherrif's Office has confirmed 26-year-old Molly Zelinskas of Dubuque has died due to injuries she sustained in the accident.

[Original story] A Monday afternoon crash left two injured, including one student aboard the bus.

The accident reported at around 3:41 p.m. Monday happened on of Dubuque Road (Highway 151) just east of Stone Road. See map below.

Linn County Sheriff’s Deputies, Linn County Sheriff’s Rescue 57, Marion Fire and Police, Area Ambulance Service, LifeGuard Air Ambulance and the Iowa Department of Transportation all responded to the accident.

When emergency personnel arrived, they found a passenger vehicle had been traveling east on Dubuque Road when it rear-ended a school bus, just east of Stone Road. The vehicle was driven by a woman who had to be extricated. There were no passengers in her vehicle. She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.

There were six students on the school bus. The bus driver and five of the students were not injured. One student was transported to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office and Marion Police Department continue to investigate the accident, which resulted in Dubuque Road (Hwy 151) being closed for more than two hours.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. The driver of the bus has been identified as 42-year-old Cary Nelson of Springville. She wasn't injured. The car was driven by 26-year-old Molly Zelinskas of Dubuque. She remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
