Sunday’s Emmys brought with it some predictable additions to Veep’s comedy streak, but things might look very different in 2018. Reports indicate a delay in Veep’s seventh and final season will keep it from competing next year, along with AMC’s Better Call Saul.

Where the 2017 Emmys continued Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ streak of six (!) Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy wins, along with an overall Outstanding Comedy Series, Deadline reports that Louis-Dreyfus won’t reach lucky number seven. The final Veep season will begin production in October, but likely won’t premiere in 2018 before the Emmy window closes on May 31, similar to how Game of Thrones’ absence opened up the drama field this year.

No explicit reason was given for the delay, but the same report also claims Better Call Saul Season 4 will debut too late in 2018 for Emmy competition; likely moving from its April perch to September. Saul didn’t win any of its eight 2017 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series and Lead Actor for star Bob Odenkirk, but it’s worth noting that Breaking Bad similarly sat out 2011 without losing heat at any of the subsequent Emmys.

We’ll see if HBO’s schedule proves any more in flux next year, but will Veep at least end on high note for Louis-Dreyfus and co. at the 2019 Emmys?
