The scammers are at in again here in Eastern Iowa! According to a press release from The Linn County Sheriff's Office, several citizens have received phone calls where the caller identifies them as a Linn County Deputy Sheriff.

The caller is told they failed to show up for jury duty or are in violation of some other offense. The scammer tells the caller they must post bond immediately or they will be arrested. It's just another scam involving a group of people trying to extort money from hard working, honest people right here in the Corridor.

The press release from Linn County states, "The Sheriff's Office does not call individuals and ask for money over the phone." Always remember that if you get a strange call like this. If it does happen, hang up the phone and report the number to your local law enforcement agency.

I hate hearing about stories like this. Just the other day, a good friend of mine was taken advantage of during a Craigslist transaction. She paid cash for concert tickets that ended up being fake. My friend was left without the tickets and the criminal gets away with the cash. It's a sad story and it happens WAY too often.

Let's do our best to warn others about this scam. Please pass this information on to your friends and family. If you have any questions, please call the Sheriff's Office at 319-892-6100.
