A new year usually means new beginnings for most of us. However, this January it marks the end of an era for the Waterloo Regional Airport.

Located at 2790 Livingston Lane in Waterloo, this facility provides non-stop and one stop destinations to more than thirty cities all throughout the country.

Now, a key member of the airport staff is taking off for a new adventure...

...retirement.

Waterloo Regional Airport Director Due to Retire

On Thursday, January 18th in partnership with the city of Waterloo, the acting Waterloo Regional Airport Director Keith Kaspari announced that he would be retiring.

"It's coming quick, it really has," Kaspari said in a Facebook live.

The current airport director started in this position in November of 2014. After nearly a decade as the head of this airport, Kaspari admits to having some regrets.

While he is proud of the infrastructure work that he and his team have done for the facility as well as the technological advancements that have been made; there is one thing that he wishes they could've accomplished.

Kaspari wished that they could have secured additional flight services to Chicago or another hub destination.

"We're going to move this airport forward to heights and lengths that we haven't seen before," Kaspari said.

The Minnesota native's last day will be Friday, January 26th.

Who Will Be the Next Airport Director?

While it seems like the plans are already set for Kaspari's retirement, there is no word on whether or not there is a concrete replacement yet.

There is no official word on who will be stepping into the role or if candidate(s) have been selected yet.

You can watch the full Facebook live that the city of Waterloo published on their social media channel down below!

We will keep you updated on the status of Kaspari's replacement when that information is released to the public.
