Things are heating up in Waterloo. Last Friday KWWL-TV 7 News reported that they were informed by sources that said Waterloo Police Chief Dan Trelka had told some officers that he'd been asked to resign.

Today KWWL News reports several community members have said they plan to show support for Chief Trelka at tonight's city council meeting.

The request to step down is in response to criticisms of how the Waterloo Police Department has been dealing with several situations lately, including a video that was released showing an officer verbally and physically assaulting a suspect after a chase.

Meanwhile Waterloo City Council members say they are taken by surprise regarding the news of the Chief being asked to resign. At least one member said that no discussion regarding the topic was made at the last City Council meeting. Another said that he wasn't made aware of the news until KWWL informed him.
