The Iowa Hawkeyes are 6-1 and ranked 18th in the nation according to the latest A.P. poll. Through 8 weeks, this Iowa team has been great, and a special season is within reach. So, its time for the annual 'way too early' bowl projection game!

Yes, Iowa has some tough remaining games. At Penn State this Saturday, a home date against Northwestern, and then at an improved Purdue team. Oh yeah, and we play Nebraska too. I get it. A lot can change between now and the end of the season. But Hawkeye fans should feel pretty good right now. Iowa is only one of three teams in the Big Ten that are bowl eligible. The other two are Ohio State and Michigan.

If Iowa can beat Penn State this weekend, the projections start to get a little rosier, if you catch my drift. At least a New Year's Day bowl would be among the projections. Until then, most expect Iowa to go 2-2 in their remaining games to finish at 8-3. Here is where some of the experts think Iowa will go bowling if the season plays out like that.

  • Bleacher Report - Outback Bowl vs. Kentucky
  • CBS Sports - Holiday Bowl vs. Utah
  • ESPN - Peach Bowl vs. Georgia
  • Sporting News - Citrus Bowl vs. Kentucky
  • Sports Illustrated - Holiday Bowl vs. USC
  • USA Today - Holiday Bowl vs. Oregon

There is a lot of football to play in the 2018 season. It all starts in Happy Valley Saturday. The Penn State game will determine if this is a 'good' Iowa football season or a 'special' one we'll remember for years. GO HAWKS!
