As the majority of us dodged a bullet here in Cedar Rapids after last week's flood, I returned to my post in the KDAT studio over the weekend. I admittedly was still expecting a certain amount of desolation. I'm happy to say, I was pleasantly surprised. Most roads from my home to work were opening, buses were already running , many businesses were back open within hours, if not minutes of being told they could. Most surprisingly, a lot of the hesco barriers along with much of the leftover sand and debris I expected to remain for quite some time, had also already been cleared out.

Our building was open all last week, despite being in the flood evacuation zone, as we are considered of importance to the community in bringing you information in times like these. But, I admit I was not much help. I wish the best to anyone still working to move back in and applaud my co-workers, the city leaders, workers and volunteers for putting our city back together miraculously fast. Find out how you can still give and receive help here.

Welcome back, Cedar Rapids!
