Did you notice...  Christmas is in the air.  It's been in the stores for weeks, it's all over the commercials, but what... it's not yet on KDAT 24/7?  What is going on?  After all, as we were reminded by one listener this morning, yesterday was an important day...

"Christmas music started yesterday last year...just thought I would put that out there."

And some of you cheer that we're waiting, while others are starting to get downright frustrated if not angry.

For example, we woke up this morning to an e-mail that read, "When will you be switching to all holiday music? or are you not doing that this year, I always look forward to it."  And shortly afterward, read this one: "You couldn't wait just one more week until after Thanksgiving for the Christmas music could you!??? "  Both of these break our hearts.  It's that big debate.  When is too soon?  When is it finally time?  After all, it's been in the stores since almost pre-Halloween, and certainly before Midnight Halloween night. (I was reminded by a staffer the other day, we once switched pre-Halloween...)

In fact, we saw this on our Facebook page Aug. 27th:

Is it Christmas music time yet? wishful thinking

And these came in during that last week of October:

OCT 21: Not that I'm wanting it now, but I certainly looking forward to the Christmas music. Any approximation if when you'll begin to play it?

Oct 28th: When do you start playing christmas music?

OCT 30: can you start playing christmas music tomorrow (10/31) because hallmark channel is playing christmas movies on halloween lol j/k

Trust us, we've heard and read them all, and our wheels have been turning, with the finger close to the "go" button.  When the weather turned over a week ago, and we got that first snow in the air, the messages really started rolling in:

Nov 10: I am just so excited for Christmas music I can barely keep it together!!!

Nov 10: When are you going to start playing Christmas music? I can't wait. Best time of the year!

NOV 11: Please, please, P-L-E-A-S-E, start the Christmas music!!! My kids and I look forward to this all year!!

So we posted a little video we created with the ask:

The responses were almost perfectly split 50/50 with the statements like...

"I actually stop listening when that happens...It's too early for me! After Thanksgiving I'm all for it."

and...

"Right now now nowwwww!"

So we took a baby step, and starting over the weekend, we were spinning one or two holiday classics an hour.  Certainly it's less than you hear in the stores, and yet it gives that taste of the holidays, since there is certainly  that feel in the air.  And once again, even with just a taste, the masses are split:

I love the Christmas music on today, but please quit doing one Christmas song then play a non Christmas song. Play all Christmas songs please

Just wanted to thank you for sprinkling Christmas songs in with the regular music it's perfect! Our dental office listens to KDAT and we appreciate you!

You couldn't wait just one more week until after Thanksgiving for the Christmas music could you!??? Sorry - changing stations!

What's the point of all this?  To show you we ARE listening, and reading EVERYTHING coming in: Facebook, Website, and the phones.  We LOVE this time of year, and everything about it, and want to make sure we're adding to your enjoyment of it in all ways possible.   No matter when we go 24/7 Christmas, which IS coming soon, we hope you enjoy it and have the happiest Holiday Season, including Thanksgiving.  We hope deep down you all get THIS feeling, as sent to us.

Just want to send out a BIG thank you for starting the Christmas songs..... :-)  It's refreshing to be able to tune in & know that holiday songs will be playing....If I happen to get up on the "wrong side of the bed", all I do is turn to KDAT & listening to the Christmas tunes gets me out of the "cranky mood" in a big hurry...

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from 104-5 KDAT!
