With 2017 coming to an end, it's time to make our New Year's Resolutions for 2018. We always have high hopes going into a new year about things we're going to do/change, but the follow through is where many people struggle.

WalletHub suggests that you shouldn't blame yourself too much for failed resolutions because where you live could be setting you up for failure. For example, if you're trying to lose weight and many of your options for eating out in your area are fast food. The website "considered some of the most popular (and most commonly broken) resolutions to rank more than 180 U.S. cities based on their conduciveness to self-improvement."

After looking at 5 key dimensions (health resolutions, relationship resolutions, etc.) and 52 key metrics , the top cities for keeping their New Year's resolutions were:

1. Seattle, WA
2. San Francisco, CA
3. San Diego, CA
4. Scottsdale, AZ
5. Salt Lake City, UT

Des Moines came in at a healthy #59 overall for likely to follow through with resolutions. Cedar Rapids also came in on the good half of the list at #70 overall out of 182 cities. Looking closer at those numbers Cedar Rapids was #7 when it comes to success with financial resolutions and ranked #20 for getting rid of bad habits. Not bad, Iowa!

Your location may not be setting you up for success, but if you strive for something enough you will make it work. So, stick to those resolutions and have a wonderful 2018. Good luck!
