Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly to Reunite for ‘Border Guards’

Step Brothers, Border Guards

Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are one of the greatest comic duos in cinema, so it’s exciting to know they’re re-teaming to make ‘Border Guards.’ Currently Adam McKay is eyeing directing, so it could be the trio’s third movie together, following ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby’ and ‘Step Brothers.’

This news comes from Deadline, who report that Sony is closing a deal to have Jesse Armstrong write the script for Ferrell and Reilly to star in, which would have them playing “two hapless but earnest friends who decide to give purpose to their lives by protecting America’s borders from illegal immigrants. In the process they find themselves accidentally stranded in Mexico without identification and must sneak back into the USA.”

Armstrong is best known for his work on the British TV series ‘Peep Show’ and recently wrote a script about Lee Atwater for Adam McKay (a project that the director has been talking about for years), so we wouldn’t be surprised if this all comes together. Though Reilly made a brief appearance in ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues,’ Reilly and Ferrell haven’t co-starred in a movie together since 2008’s ‘Step Brothers,’ which was rumored to have a follow-up, though McKay has recently suggested he has no interest in making another sequel after ‘Anchorman 2.’ Ferrell and Reilly were/are attached to ‘Devil’s Night,’ but we haven’t heard much about that project since it was first announced, and if McKay decides to direct this, it is likely to come first.
