Amazon gained some serious credibility in the TV department in recent months, particularly with Sunday’s dual Golden Globe wins for ‘Transparent’ and star Jeffrey Tambor, but the retail conglomerate’s studio branch has its biggest match point yet. Woody Allen himself will write and direct his first TV series for Amazon, already ordered for a full season. I mean, it is Woody Allen.

Brace yourself for this humdinger of a headline, but absolutely no details of series are known at this time, only that Allen will write and direct its half-hour episodes for Amazon. Even Allen himself said of the news, “I don’t know how I got into this. I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this.”

Vice President of Amazon Studios, Price’s regret seems to come up short, at least for the moment:

Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honor to be working with him on his first television series. From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.

In addition to ‘Transparent’ and the moderately-received ‘Mozart in the Jungle,’ Amazon also has in its corner for 2015 a second season of the Garry Trudeau political comedy ‘Alpha House,’ Michael Connelly’s ‘Bosch,’ Marc Forster’s ‘Hand of God,’ and Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Red Oaks.’

So, you know, yeah! Woody Allen. Writin’ some of that there TV business. In the future. It’ll be about some stuff, most likely. Witty stuff. What do you think?
