A 12-year-old charged with attempted murder after bringing a gun to North Scott Junior High School in August will be tried as an adult, a judge decided today. We're following the story from our news partners at Local 4 News, WHBF TV.

He still remains in the Scott County Juvenile Detention Center. His next hearing is December 14.

You may recall in August of this year a 12-year-old North Scott Junior High student was disarmed by a teacher after bringing a loaded .22 caliber handgun to school. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder, according to Eldridge Police.

The incident forced a lock down of North Scott Junior High around 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 31.

According to police, the firearm was loaded but no shots were fired during the incident. A teacher - who police are not identifying other than to say it was a woman - is credited with disarming the student prior to police arriving on scene.
