25% of Americans Are Done With Christmas Shopping Already

As many Americans are trying to figure out how Christmas looks for their family this year, whether that's a Zoom call, a Facetime with Grandma, or renting a space to socially distance, many are knocking out the Christmas shopping early.

Because there's nothing else better to do, a little over 25% of people who responded to a LendingTree survey said they're already finished with the Christmas shopping.

The survey shows 1 in 4 Americans in fact finished their holiday shopping by the first week of October.

“Because of the coronavirus relief bill, increased unemployment benefits and overall reduced spending during the last six months, many Americans have a little more money in their bank accounts today than they otherwise would," said Matt Schulz, chief credit analyst for LendingTree. "It’s possible that some folks have taken advantage of that surplus to do a little early holiday shopping."

Of those that bought ahead of time, 44% were parents with children under 18, and nearly half were from households with an income of $100,000 or more.
