Cedar Rapids Police say one person has died following a one-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Rapids Police Officers responded to the accident in the 1600 block of Ellis Blvd. NW at 7:09 pm Wednesday night. The accident involved the driver of a 4-door vehicle crashing into an electrical pole, which also downed power lines. The 41-year-old male driver was unresponsive when police arrived and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to Unity Point-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids where he was pronounced dead. The victim has not been identified, pending notification of relatives.

Ellis Boulevard, between Penn Avenue NW and O Avenue, was closed while emergency crews worked the scene and police investigated the accident Wednesday night. The investigation continues today.

The victim is the eleventh person who has died in an accident within the Cedar Rapids city limits this year. Those 11 fatalities have involved nine different accidents, according to Greg Buelow, Public Safety Communications Coordinator for the City of Cedar Rapids.
