The new movie "A Dog's Purpose" is under fire after a video surfaces showing animal cruelty on the set.

By now, you've probably seen the trailer for "A Dog's Purpose," an upcoming movie about the many lives of a reincarnated golden retriever. I had already decided that I didn't want to see the movie based off of how many times I've cried during the trailer, but this video solidifies my choice. Yesterday, TMZ posted a short video clip of Hercules, the German Shepherd in the film, being forced into turbulent water. The clips shows a clearly terrified pup, essentially being pushed into the water in order to film the scene. What's worse is the second half of the clip, showing Hercules in the water. At one point he gets submerged and the handlers have to rush to the dog's side.

The film's production company Amblin Entertainment released a statement saying:

“While we continue to review the circumstances shown in the edited footage, Amblin is confident that great care and concern was shown for the German Shepherd Hercules, as well as for all of the other dogs featured throughout the production of the film."

One of the film's producers, the director, and one of the voice actors in the film all expressed their shock and concern after seeing the video. Many animal right organizations like PETA are calling for a boycott of the movie. PETA stated:

“PETA is calling on dog lovers to boycott the film in order to send the message that dogs and other animals should be treated humanely, not as movie props.”
