A Large Portion of Tower Terrace Road Will Be Closing Soon
For those who use Tower Terrace road, it will be another 'not so fun summer' as more road construction in the area will close the major roadway for months.
The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that starting in April, a large portion of Tower Terrace Road will be closed as crews build a new interchange connecting the roadway to Interstate 380. In addition to that large project, other portions of Tower Terrace will be reconstructed this summer to widen the roadway for future development.
Traffic on Tower Terrace from Edgewood Road to North Center Point Road will need to use an alternate route due to the construction of the new interchange. The Gazette reports that North Center Point Road will remain open until the middle of April. Hiawatha city officials say that the goal is to have the city's portion of Tower Terrace open again by August 19th.
The cost for completing the interchange will be split among the DOT and the cities of Cedar Rapids and Hiawatha, at a price of $22 million. The project is expected to be completed in 2023. Construction on the project actually began last fall, but work on the ramps and bridge will be in full swing starting in April, according to the Gazette.
