If you're craving some authentic gumbo, you won't have to travel far! According to a new article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, a new eatery called Fat Pat’s Gumbo YaYa is now open at NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids!

Fat Pat's Gumbo YaYa is owned and operated by Patrick Rashed, better known as Jamaican Pat. He also owns the popular Caribbean Kitchen, which is located inside NewBo City Market, as well. As the name suggests, Fat Pat's Gumbo YaYa is different from Caribbean Kitchen, specializing in Pat's unique style of gumbo. The NewBo City Market website reads:

"Using creole-based recipes, Pat's gumbo palate includes chicken and sausage gumbo, seafood gumbo, steak gumbo, with more options to come in the future. Southern-inspired sides like cornbread, dirty rice, Cajun garlic buttered corn, and kale are also available, including jambalaya."

Fat Pat's Gumbo YaYa officially opened for business at NewBo back on October 6th. So far, the reviews are great! Commenter Bob Boone wrote on Jamaican Pat's Facebook:

"REALLY good gumbo... I've had it 2 days in a row now. I'll definitely be back for more."

Another user named Steven Prochaska wrote on Caribbean Kitchen's page:

"I can confirm, this man can gumbo."

If you're looking to give it a try, the eatery is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. The Gazette reports that "fixtures and rotating special gumbos start at $10," and that grab-and-go gumbo will be available in the future. You can read more about the restaurant HERE.
