Alaska Krispy Kreme Truck Gets Raided By Mama Bear and Cub

A mama black bear and her cub in Alaska broke into a Krispy Kreme delivery van as it was dropping off products at a store

Anchorage, Alaska,

In Anchorage, a mother black bear and her cub enjoyed a tasty treat on Tuesday morning when they found a van delivering Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and devoured several boxes of freshly baked treats.

The incident occurred at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson when the van's driver briefly left the door open to deliver the doughnuts to a store on base. The mother bear and cub snuck inside and consumed 20 packages of doughnut holes and six packages of three-pack chocolate doughnuts.

“You could hear them breaking open the packages,” said Shelly Deano, manager of the JBER store. “We were trying to beat on the van but they just kept eating all the doughnuts. They ate 20 packages of the doughnut holes and I believe six packages of the three-pack chocolate doughnuts.”

Getting The Bears To Leave

Despite attempts to get the bears to leave by banging on the van, base security eventually had to use loud sirens to drive them off into the nearby woods.

Learning A Lesson

Candice Sargeant, the general manager of the Krispy Kreme stores on Muldoon and in Wasilla, said her team learned from the unusual experience and will be more cautious in the future.

“We’ll definitely be learning to slide up our ramp, close the doors, to ensure that bears don’t get back in there again,” she said with a laugh.

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game website encourages reporting any encounters with wildlife that could leave animals injured or orphaned.
